Achille Castiglioni, 1918-2002, is an Italian designer of the 20th century. Achille Castiglioni, like his brother Pier Giacomo, suffered the material influence of his father, the sculptor Giannino Castiglioni.
What characterizes the work of the Castiglioni brothers is much more an approach than a style. This is concretized first by a logical analysis, and without preconceived idea, of the functions which the object must fulfill and the means to achieve it. The designer’s job is then to find the minimal design that will allow the object to perform the required functions. The objective of the Castiglioni brothers was to reach the point where it is no longer possible to do less. Minimalist design.
