Alain Laboile, waiting for the postman (book) Preface by Gérald Vidamment. 2012. Hardcover book of 95 pages. Publisher KnowWare. Bilingual French/English. The photos are almost all in black and white and it is as if what was in the photo took on a completely different meaning, that we discovered another facet of an object, a person or a place.

The French photographer Alain Laboile photographs his children at home, in the house, in their large garden, in the surrounding countryside. Here is a selection of funny, surprising, incongruous situations and images.

For six years, Alain Laboile has devoted his photographic work to the theme of childhood, taking spontaneous shots of his six children day after day, in the countryside. Real snapshots of life playfully mixing the art of living in complete freedom with the daily life of a family outside of time. From one image to another, the life of this bunch of endearing savages is punctuated by the poetry of the moment and perpetual carefreeness.

This beautiful book is an opportunity to present a selection of the most beautiful slices of life captured by the photographer. “Freed from all voyeurism, from the rigidity of everyday life, Alain Laboile’s photos give us a glimpse of a universe of freedom, surprises, and shared emotions.

A rarity!
