Albert Gleizes, born December 8, 1881 in Paris, and died June 23, 1953 in Avignon, was a French painter, draftsman, engraver, philosopher and theoretician, who was one of the founders of Cubism and an influence on the School of Paris.

Gleizes was among the first to face the public at the 1911 Salons des Indépendants in Paris and Brussels. Testimonies, documents and studies attest to his presence at the birth of modern art. The special place occupied by Gleizes in the history of modern painting is essentially due to the evolution of his work. From 1912, this experienced such a rapid rise in power that it seemed to skip the stages. From 1920, when most of his companions and competitors began a return to figurative painting, Gleizes developed the principles of cubism. The unity of Gleizes’ work comes from the recurrence of themes during his fifty years of creation. .

the authors of the catalog retain this element and, in an original way, present the works in chronological order then in a sub-classification by “family” or theme. Gleizes remained classical in the sense that the fate of painting mattered to him. But he transformed the art of painting, and that’s why his work was dedicated to the future.
