Antonio Saura, Crucifixions, Crucifixiones (Book)  very good condition, softcover. French / Spanish.

The work of Antonio Saura, Crucifixión, 1959–63 is one of Saura’s most impressive paintings on this theme, which he began to treat in 1957 and did not give up until his death in 1997. The audacious way and convincing to take the brilliant model created by Velázquez, the Crucifixión, around 1632 exhibited at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid, and, bringing it a modern treatment, and opening it to critical debate. The crucifixion ceases to be a Christian emblem and becomes an image of the tragedy of the human condition. Saura, in fact, explained that there was no religious motive in her connection to this traditional biblical affair. The painting is an artistic and political response to the state in which the world is confronted by Saura, a “protest storm”.
