Arman (Book) As New, Paperback – published by Galerie Enrico Navarra. 1997. French / English. 144 pages.
In a relevant and accessible text, Marcelin Pleynet undertakes a general commentary on Arman’s work based on photographic documents of some important works by the painter/sculptor. Arman’s approach appears in its brilliant singularity as much as in its resonances with certain questions of the time. Color reproductions of the series “Nec Mergitur” the opportunity to discover it. His works are made up of painted objects welded into paintings dripping with paint. The whole gives the impression of emerging sculptures, of sorts of wrecks placed on a seabed.
Finally, during an interview with Tita Reut, Arman explains his intentions and reveals his methods and his work intuitions.
Without having the ambition of the great retrospective monographs, this book constitutes an excellent initiation to one of the major artists of the second half of the 20th century.
This catalog on the work of the sculptor Arman presents a selection of monumental works, works on human dimensions and one of his last series entitled Hidden Treasures. Contains an illustrated biography.
