Arman’s fascination with musical instruments (violins, cellos, pianos) is central to his work, symbolizing a “creative destruction” through cuts and accumulations. By breaking, cutting, or encasing these objects in bronze, he questions their sacred value, analyzes their form, and transforms manufactured objects into expressive and provocative sculptures. Violins, in particular, interest him for their elegant, anthropomorphic forms. The cuts (instrument fragments) sometimes recall Cubist deconstruction.
