In Bambara mythology, the Ti-Wara (meaning “wild animal of the earth”) is a fabulous spirit, half-antelope, half-human, who taught agriculture and culture to the Bambara people. This lithograph captures the essence through elegant, abstract lines: tapering, curving horns, successive arches evoking the powerful neck and mane, and a stylized, dynamic form reminiscent of the crests of traditional Chi Wara headdresses used in ritual dances.
