About Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960–1988)
Jean-Michel Basquiat was a groundbreaking American artist and pioneer of the 1980s New York underground scene. Rising from graffiti (as SAMO©) to international acclaim, he became a leading figure in contemporary art, Neo-Expressionism, and the elevation of street art to museum-level status.
A close collaborator and friend of Andy Warhol, Basquiat infused his work with references to his Haitian and Puerto Rican heritage, African-American identity, pop culture, jazz, anatomy, and social critique. Tragically, he died at age 27 from an overdose, yet his bold, symbolic paintings and drawings remain among the most influential and valuable in modern art.
This Basquiat “The King” poster is a sought-after collectible for fans of Basquiat art, street art prints, and limited-edition lithographs from major gallery exhibitions.
