Brassai in America, 1957 (Book) by Agnès de Gouvion Saint-Cyr. Publisher Flammarion. 2011. Hardcover book in good condition except for a few creased edges. 170 pages. French version.
In 1957, photographer Brassaï was invited by Holiday magazine to produce a report on New York and New Orleans. During this first trip to the United States, the artist made a radical change in his style: he took his first color photographs and focused his interest on the verticality of American skyscrapers.
Brassaï, pseudonym of Gyula Halász (1899-1984) was a Hungarian photographer, naturalized French, also a designer, painter, sculptor, medallist and writer. Photographer, writer, sculptor and designer, Brassaï is known for his black and white photographs of Paris. Nicknamed “the eye of Paris”, he shows in the 1930s the Paris that no one looks at or photographs, being passionate about its nighttime strollers or its graffiti. An exceptional collection of photographs that bear witness to an era!
