Buddhas by Ma Tsé Lin, sculptures, installations, paintings (Book) By Gérard Xuriguera , Bruno Leleu , Sandrine Cormault. Like new, In English.
The character of Buddha remains the central figure in the work of the artist Ma Tse Lin. Mixing the cultural history of China, his country of origin, and the Western present in search of serenity, Ma Tse Lin reveals the spiritual journey of an “Awakened” man who was able to offer generous answers to the great dilemmas of human life. Buddhas by Ma Tse Lin offers all the richness of a work in motion that attempts to abolish the boundaries that man never ceases to redefine.
Born in 1960 in Guang-Dong, China, Ma Tsé-Lin has lived and created in Paris since 1985. A graduate of the Central Institute of Arts and Crafts in Beijing and the Cooper School in New York, he was the first Chinese student to join the prestigious École nationale des Arts décoratifs in Paris. At the crossroads of two cultures and two pictorial traditions, his painting operates a subtle fusion between the Taoist symbolism of the China of his childhood and the modernity of this West where he lives, like the monumental canvases representing faces of serene Buddhas that made him famous: decorated with Chinese calligraphy expressing the adages of Buddhism, they are also marked by the claimed influence of Tapiès, Dubuffet, Miró or Tanguy.
This book offers an exhaustive retrospective of his work over the last fifteen years with 80 works, and reveals in passing certain lesser-known aspects of his work, such as his sculptures and installations.
