Angel figure in carved solid wood, vintage and traditional craftsmanship from Mexico, handmade cherub, angel face, good condition considering its age. The wood has been varnished. Note his brown glass eyes. He has an impressive look! It is a wall statue to hang on a wall. Size: 10.82 inches high, 8.66 inches wide, 4.33 inches thick.

You will notice some very old cracks due to the drying of the wood as well as the artisanal finishing (on the back side). The photos provided are an integral part of the description. Please look at them carefully.

While pre-Hispanic societies mainly made masks for funerary and ritual purposes, with the arrival of Europeans in Mexico and the Conquest, the natives incorporated the new religious dogmas of Christianity into their masks, to somehow guarantee the continuation of their own beliefs.

Behind the mask of a saint, or a demon of the European Catholic imagination, the Mexican Indian protected his own vision of the world and integrated unique characteristics. Thus, the mask fulfilled its historical function in two ways: as an object of artistic representation of a particular vision of the world, and as a safeguard that hides one reality behind another.
