César Baldaccini, known as César, is a French sculptor, 1921-1998. He is part of the New Realists movement, created in 1960. From the end of 1959, César focused his work on the technique of “directed compression”, which became his trademark: using a hydraulic press, it compresses various objects in the form of parallelepipeds.
