A discreet color in its beginnings, blue has become over the centuries a magic formula, a sensory experience that seduces and soothes, makes us dream and opens us to inner clarity. Today, when we contemplate Conor McCreedy’s paintings, he plays with the nuances of a single color. By creating his own McCreedyblue, or Mccblue, the viewer is transported into the experience of the transformation of this autonomous color, moving from monochrome to abstract neo-expressionism.

This book invites the reader to discover semi-identifiable and timeless landscapes, populated by singular forms that embody the fragility of nature. An ode to his childhood in South Africa, these works are an attempt to confront nature, imbued with mysteries and profound thoughts. A way of living in the present moment, with the wild and mystical adventure of the unseen power of the natural world. Statements from prominent figures in the art world complement McCreedy’s influential imagery.

The South African-born, Swiss-based British artist Conor McCreedy is considered one of the most remarkable creators of our time. His distinctive monochrome paintings are featured in some of the world’s most important private and institutional collections and have been the subject of solo exhibitions in several major cities.

McCreedy has defined a distinctive monochrome blue vocabulary in his work, ever since he began painting exclusively in blue at a young age. Faithful to a single color, focusing on the exploration of matter, the creative gesture and the spiritual connection between the artist and his work, he seeks to transcend visionary boundaries.
