Fêtes mémorables, Bals costumés, 1922-1972 / Memorable Parties, Costume Balls, 1922-1972 (book) by Jean-Louis de Faucigny-Lucinge. Hardcover book of 126 pages, large format. Editions Herschler Paris. 1986. Very good condition. Book protected by a plastic film. French language.

The most spectacular private costume balls organized by personalities such as Etienne de Beaumont, the Viscountess of Noailles, Guy de Rothschild.

A classic book that documents the legendary parties organized in Europe during the middle of the 20th century. These masked balls brought together the elite of society and are still talked about today. Faucigny-Lucinge guides us through a selection of the greatest parties with the help of many unpublished photographs by Man Ray, Horst, Hoyningen-Huene and Beaton. The parties included the Louis XIV Ball, the Proust Ball, the Whiting Ball, the Oriental Ball, and the Surrealist Ball.

The hosts included Etienne and Edith de Beaumont, Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles, Carlos de Beistegui, Baron Alexis de Rede, the Rothschilds, and the author himself, Jean-Louis de Faucigny-Lucinge. The hosts and participants drew on the creative talents of the great artists of the day, including Picasso, Berard, Cocteau, Chanel, Poiret, Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Balanchine, and Lifar.

This is the French edition of a book originally published in 1972 as “Legendary Parties” copiously illustrated in mostly black and white and in color.
