Fred Samuel, founder of the famous Fred Joaillier, was a master of colored stones who attracted many with his elegant way of life on the French Riviera, then very fashionable. Born in Buenos Aires in 1908, he was the son of a French jeweler who immigrated to Argentina. Paris served as the backdrop for Fred Samuel’s career, which began with the opening in 1936 of his first jewelry store specializing in brilliantly colored stones (such as the extraordinary Golden Sun, a one hundred and five carat yellow diamond). The jeweler became famous by bringing to life original drawings by Jean Cocteau: news of these creations spread quickly and crowned heads of Nepal ordered pieces from him to accompany their royal outfits.

Fred Samuel’s eldest son diversified this jewelry collection; one day he had the idea of braiding marine cables and fixing them at the end with rivets in order to make a bracelet which he gave to his wife: this is how the first piece of jewelry in the “Force” line was born in 1966. 10”. When Fred Samuel opened a new boutique in Monaco, he met Princess Grace who became one of his most loyal customers, as did certain actresses, such as Marlene Dietrich.

In 1989, he designed the necklace made of diamonds and set with twenty-three rubies cut into the shape of a heart that Julia Roberts wore in the film Pretty Woman. When the company was entrusted to Yan Sicard in 1996, the new artistic director continued in the same vein of innovative creations, such as a ring in the shape of a violin which recalled the works of the American artist born in France, Arman.

In 2012, a partnership with Kate Moss launched a new exclusive collection inspired by the English model’s tattoos, thus keeping the very contemporary inventiveness of Fred Joaillier in the spotlight.
