Georges Braque, French painter and sculptor, 1882-1963. He was, with Pablo Picasso, one of the initiators of Cubism. The artist no longer seeks to copy nature but to break it down into masses in order to recompose it. He will represent the model from several points of view, but in a single fixed image, as if the painter were turning around the model to paint its entirety. Thus a multiplication of facets will take place. The shapes will then be geometricized and simplified as well as the colors which will be mainly shades of gray and brown. It is a painting that is always figurative but complex.
