Gérard Laplau (1938-2009). A popular storyteller, he told stories with his brushes, and his paintings were as many collections of anecdotes. Gérard Laplau liked to play with contradictions. He who said he was agoraphobic painted festivals or markets teeming with characters who nevertheless seem much less agitated than in everyday life. While he could confess to being sad and desperate, his very colorful paintings, with meadows dotted with flowers and polychrome villages or cities, are imbued with poetry and joy of living.
