Julio Gonzalez, Sculpture, Catalogue Raisonné (Book) by Julio González, Jörn Merkert. Preface by Tomás Llorens. Mint in blister, in slipcase. Very Rare Book – French/English/Spanish. Publisher Mondadori Electa. 1987. 357 pages. French language.

Julio González, 1876-1942, is a Spanish sculptor and painter associated with cubist and surrealist movements, as well as pictorial abstraction.

Sculptor, González lived in Paris and was a friend of Picasso and Brancusi. Working almost exclusively with beaten and cut metal, he first used this technique to create a series of faces and masks in an extremely minimalist style similar to certain creations of Cubism or African art. In the 1930s and 1940s, his sculptures were slender and branched structures, stylized or abstract female figures or surrealist plant men.

This monograph, thanks to its bibliographical references, the list of exhibitions and collections, the classification of unpublished works and photographic documentation, as well as the analysis of the artist’s chronological development, is an essential source of information for specialists and art lovers.
