History of gardens from the Renaissance to the present day. The art of gardens is one of the most ephemeral human creations, dependent on the erosion of time and the vagaries of property changes. Like a veritable encyclopedia, this sum of more than five hundred pages chronologically presents the state of the most recent research carried out in this field, written by the 65 best specialists in the world.

The major periods thus defined are the Renaissance garden, the Baroque garden and the classical park, the gardens of the Age of Enlightenment, the eclectic garden and the golden age of urban parks from the 19th century to the first decades of the 20th century, and finally the contemporary park, its facilities designed for leisure and its artistic vocation. More than 600 illustrations trace this story point by point, thanks to a rich documentation, coming from museums, public archives and private collections, which alternates miniatures, paintings, architectural drawings, diagrams, and plans of the most important parks and gardens, including a 50th specially redesigned for this work.
