Keith Carter, born in 1948, is an American photographer, educator and artist renowned for his dreamlike photos of people, animals and objects.
A long month-long trip in 1973 to the Museum of Modern Art in New York to study their permanent collection intensified an already intense interest in the art of photography.
His early photographs were based on stories, black folk tales of dog ghosts and bottle trees, the wonder of children, and using his own white Anglo-Saxon Protestant background, he tried to give a glimpse of what he found informative, eloquent and enduring.
