Jean-François Oëben, Johann Franz Oeben, (1721-1763) is a renowned cabinetmaker and renowned for his marquetry and his furniture with Transition style mechanisms.

After her studies at the Ecole du Louvre, Rosemarie Stratmann-Döhler defended her thesis on The Pavilion of Versailles – Construction, housing, furniture (1965) before returning to Germany (Heidelberg). After her doctoral thesis on Jean-François Oeben, she was curator and then deputy director and head of the art and cultural history department at the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe. She is the author of numerous publications on French and German ceramics and furniture.
