José de Guimarães, original signed lithograph, the three-headed monster and the flower, size: 23.22 x 19.29 inches. very good condition. Sold unframed. Title: “Atlântico, Pacífico, Oceano Índico”.
Dreams transcribed through art reveal our multifaceted nature, like this three-headed monster that blossoms into a flower. Guimarães understood that reality itself is only a shared dream that he shapes through creation.
This artist is in the habit of saying: “Art is the reality of the dream”.
José de Guimarães (1939- ) is one of the most singular figures of contemporary art, whose training as an engineer, his artist’s eye, his anthropologist’s approach and his passion as a collector are combined in a graphic language with a colorful chromatic palette. He cultivates an expressive poetics reminiscent of raw art, full of signs and symbols in which he combines modernity, tradition and ancient cultures in dynamic compositions, bright colors, real and imaginary shapes and figures, subject to stylization, fragmentation and juxtaposition. He works on the idea of a synthesis and a possible osmosis between African and European cultures.
