Julio Pomar (1926-2018) is undoubtedly one of the most beloved Portuguese artists of the 20th century: a generous expressionism, a vibrant palette, a mischievous tenderness for everyday people, and a constant celebration of the joy of life and desire. For him, even the everyday becomes a celebration. This large lithograph belongs to his legendary series of sailors, one of his most sought-after. It depicts a couple reunited after a long separation: their embrace is passionate, their smiles knowing, their bodies intertwined with the joyful and uninhibited sensuality that is uniquely Pomar. The colors sing—red, ochre, green, and deep blue—and the composition overflows with energy and light.
