Paul Colin (1892-1985)
In 1925, a stunning spectacle from the New World arrived in France for the first time. Harlem and its incredibly uninhibited artists give us a lesson in life, movement and youth. All of Paris is won over by the overflowing vitality of the Revue Nègre. Paul Colin, a young painter, poster designer and already renowned theater decorator, is responsible for creating the poster for the show. Fascinated by Joséphine Baker, he then undertook a masterful work: Le Tumulte Noir.
Le Tumulte Noir, an album of forty-five lithographs, was immediately recognized as a masterpiece. 45 exceptional lithographs! For the first time, a new edition of Tumulte Noir is produced; as in 1927, each plate drawn by hand, color by color, requires the excellence of the lithographer’s know-how and the precision of each of his gestures. Forty-five plates printed in lithography in Paris. The texts are reproduced in art typography and recomposed by Guy Lebreton. The exceptional quality of the paper ensures the longevity of the work.
