Dr. Stephen Chauvet, 1885-1950, brilliant French doctor, endowed with an advanced, serious and broad culture. Her knowledge focuses more specifically on the arts and sciences. He began his collection of African and oceanic art after the First World War, with the acquisition of several smaller spectacular collections formed by European adventurers and missionaries in the first decades of the twentieth century. Chauvet continued his research, not only on objects, but also the understanding of particularities with a characteristic passion, and was the author of several founding works on the arts of Africa, Easter Island and Polynesia, of which Les Arts Indigènes en Nouvelle-Guinée was his masterpiece.
