Man Ray, a clandestine look at the Domergues (book) soft cover, like new. 2017. Cannes Town Hall, 115 pages. French/English. Very numerous illustrations. There is also an original invitation card for the opening of the Man Ray exhibition, on June 29, 2017 at the Villa Domergue.

Exhibition book. This exhibition takes the form of a confrontation where two opposing worlds in modernity improvise, that of surrealism resulting from the Dada revolution for the innovative works of Man Ray, and that of a more classic decorative art, around the works by Jean-Gabriel Domergue and Odette Maugendre, two creators who, through their modernist practice, participated in the evolution of decorative art in the 20th century.

Villa Domergue is in the heart of a sloping pine forest opening onto the bay of Cannes. It was in this house, now a historic monument, that the painter Jean-Gabriel Domergue settled in 1926. He built a villa there called “Fiesole”, where he created the first poster for the Cannes Film Festival.

Following the wishes of its owners, the villa and part of the collections were bequeathed to the city of Cannes in 1973. It is there, still today, that the jury of the Cannes Film Festival meets to deliberate.
