Marc Chagall, Museum poster reproducing one of Marc Chagall’s works: an oil on canvas dating from 1930 : The creation of the world. Excellent condition. Size: 27.55 x 19.68 inches.

Above, in the sky invaded by yellow light, a spinning sun, whose colors evoke the Orphism of Delaunay, which Chagall knew in Paris in his years of apprenticeship, draws in its wheel the Jewish people and episodes of the biblical story. Christ on the Cross is one of them: his loins are girded with the shawl that the Jews wear in the synagogue, he is for Chagall the sacrificed Jew who appears in his painting with the beginnings of the Second World War.

In the lower register, an angel carrying the abandoned Adam in his arms emerges from the primordial ocean where Chagall represented the animals, created before man. The features of the angel, like the wearing of trousers, underline the artist’s identification with him: he thus asserts himself as creator and bearer of the divine message.
