About Marie Laurencin
Marie Laurencin was a pioneering French painter and printmaker, closely linked to the birth of modern art. A classmate of Georges Braque, muse to Guillaume Apollinaire, influenced by Matisse, and once a close friend of Picasso, she developed a distinctive, timeless style blending elements of Fauvism and Cubism with feminine grace.

Known as the official portraitist of French high-society women, Laurencin created poetic, melancholic works in soft pastel palettes dominated by pinks, blues, and whites. Her simplified compositions feature fluid lines and suave colors, focusing almost exclusively on elegant portraits of women and young girls – a celebration of femininity and quiet liberation in a male-dominated art world.
