Meibutsugire Kyoto Shoin’s Art, Japanese Textiles (Book) by Ken Kirihata. Hardcover, Like New, bilingual English/Japanese, 1994. 96 pages.
Meibutsugire were pieces of brocade, damask, and other sumptuous textiles that were treasured by tea ceremony practitioners of the Edo period. Most were either Chinese textiles from the Yuan or Ming dynasties, or more recently imported (17th-18th century) Indian textiles. Tea practitioners compiled kogirechô albums of these textiles, which they then used as references when selecting or reusing fabrics as furoshiki or for other uses in tea ceremony practice.
This very interesting collection is a mini-encyclopedia of Japanese textiles. Each volume is written by a specialist, historian, or museum curator.
