Catalan artist Joan Miro (1893-1983). A major figure in 20th century art, Joan Miró claimed absolute freedom throughout his life, thus escaping any convention – cubist, surrealist, abstract – that could have confined him. For six decades, the Catalan artist, author of a very rich sign language, painter and poet, prolific engraver, sculptor, ceramist, book illustrator and creator of sets and costumes for the stage, invented his world.
This third volume of the catalogue of the engraved work of Joan Miró was established and written by Jacques Dupin, assisted by Ariane Lelong and Françoise Gaillard, in close collaboration with Joan Miró, who had taken an active part until 1982 in the collection of information and the verification of the documents used.
Joan Miró specially executed 3 original woodcuts for this book in Joan Barbarà’s workshop in Barcelona. They appear on the cover, frontispiece and on page 11.
