In the vastness of the Louvre, this book offers you a world tour in 100 masterpieces. Art will take you to distant lands and to the traces of past civilizations.

Magnificent book which offers us a real tour of the world through works carefully chosen because of their origin or the inspiration of their author. This volume is divided into three chapters.

The first entitled “Voyage to the land of the work” consists mainly of statues, vases, sculptures and also of armor and a mask from countries as varied as Syria, Iraq, Iran, l ‘Egypt, Greece, Turkey, France, Chile and even Canada. We find there well-known works like the Venus of Milo, the Victory of Samothrace and also a little less famous pieces such as the Apollo of Piombino and the sleeping Hermaphrodite.

The second chapter, entitled “Journey to the Heart of the Artwork”, consists of a range of masterpieces of European painting that takes us directly to the heart of the artist’s life and his time. We find among others La Joconde of course, Les Captifs by Michelangelo, La fortune teller of Caravaggio and Le chich à a de carreau by Georges de La Tour, The Lender and his wife by Quentin Metsys and Le Jeune Beggar of Murillo.

The third chapter, titled “Voyage par l’Oeuvre”, brings together a series of paintings painted by artists who have made several trips abroad. You can admire works by painters such as Dürer, William Turner, Eugène Fromentin, Alexandre Decamps, Antoine Gros and Pierre Patel.
