Narcisse Navré (Book) by Henri Cueco. Like new. 96 pages, in French.
After a series of paintings devoted to potatoes, then landscapes, Henri Cueco tackles self-portraiture. The writer, who he also is, cannot help but sneer, quibble, wonder about the image he has of himself, that others have of him (notably his wife), explore the self-portraits of other painters. This tête-à-tête facing his mirror, his canvas, his blank page, plunges him into abysses of eccentric or dark, absurd or learned reflections.
The author may be a heartbroken Narcissus but the reader will no longer be able to look in the mirror without remembering his observation: “No one has ever seen his back or his face. We can photograph them, draw them, see them by a game of mirrors, etc., but seeing them without an intermediary, never. ”
