Painting in Venice from its origins until the 18th century, text accompanied by numerous color photos. The Venetian school of painting developed essentially in Venice itself, in this place essential to exchanges between North and South, Northern Europe and the countries bathed by the Mediterranean, the East and the West (and firstly the Po plain), during a long period which goes from the 14th to the 18th century, a period of influence of the Venetian School. It brought together painters from the surrounding area, those from the territories of the Republic, on dry land, and from ancient Venetian families. Their paintings, which became famous in Venice, were marketed throughout Europe.

The “birth” of Venetian painting took place in the 14th century, during Venice’s relative break with Byzantine art through the integration of Gothic themes such as the coronation of the Virgin.

In the 15th century, large workshops of Venetian painters made the transition from the international Gothic style to the applications, in painting, of the research of the first Renaissance.
