Pierre Paulin, le design au pouvoir / Design in Power (book)
In 1983, François Mitterrand commissioned Pierre Paulin to design a set of modern furniture for his presidential office at the Élysée Palace.

The designer created an elegant table with a pink lacquered metal frame, blue lacquered wood, and blue leather, accompanied by a swivel chair in amaranth wood with caning and burgundy fabric.

Installed in 1988 in the Salon Doré (Gilded Room), this iconic desk served François Mitterrand and later other political figures such as Élisabeth Guigou, François Fillon, Jean-Louis Borloo, and Roselyne Bachelot.

This 2008 edition of the Pierre Paulin, Design in Power catalog is published by the Mobilier National (National Furniture Collection) in partnership with the Paulin company. It highlights this emblematic piece born from the historic collaboration between Pierre Paulin and the Mobilier National’s Research and Creation Workshop (ARC).
