Polo is a sport that has spanned many continents, cultures and social classes. One of the oldest team sports in the world, it originated from the training of cavalry units in Asia. Nicknamed the “sport of kings”, it is no surprise that polo is a favourite sport of the British royal family. Winston Churchill and General Patton were among its devoted followers. However, delving deeper into polo’s heritage reveals the diverse community that has made it a global pastime.
Polo Heritage takes the reader on a journey from Mongolia to Mexico, Barbados to Pakistan, and into the heart of the most prestigious tournaments on grass, sand, and snow. Explore the historic polo grounds of India, delve into the high society of British polo, and discover the Argentine polo culture that has produced some of the world’s greatest polo families.
An introduction by legendary polo player Nacho Figueras is accompanied by original photography by Aline Coquelle, offering a modern and authentic perspective on the spirit of polo.
Nacho Figueras is one of the most recognizable faces in polo. Born in Argentina, Figueras began playing polo at the age of nine. He has since won a 6-goal handicap. He is the captain of the BlackWatch Polo team sponsored by Ralph Lauren.
Aline Coquelle – With degrees in art history and anthropology, the nomadic Parisian photographer has always traveled the world. She contributes to prestigious international publications and creates marketing campaigns for luxury brands.
