Rachel & Rosco (Book) by Jacques Floret. like new, Head Edition composed of 20 copies numbered from 1 to 20 and signed by the artist. – Paperback – 80 pages. Delivery time 3 weeks.
Rachel & Rosco is a set of 77 drawings made with a four-color ballpoint pen. Each drawing is reproduced on an entire page and tirelessly represents the same subject: a woman (or a girl) and her dog. These drawings, around which nothing else arises – neither legends nor texts – are the more or less faithful reproduction of existing photos selected by the artist. Jacques Floret uses the Bic four colors here, a common and familiar object. Through this repeated “transcription” of these scenes from everyday life, he makes the Rachel & Rosco couple friendly figures, images straight out of an intimate photo album that could be ours, gathering readers around a common memory. Because Rachel & Rosco do not have their own identity. According to the drawings, different women invest the name of Rachel, as different breeds of dogs evolve under that of Rosco.
But if the characters are multiple and the poses changing, the obsessive motif is itself unique. Jacques Floret, in addition to using the Bic 4 colors, executes his drawing as younger he scribbles in the margins of his school notebooks, developing his technique from a childish posture. Yet it is the gaze of an adult who lands here and who insists on this unusual figure of couple – a woman, a dog -, as evidenced by this slight impression of solitude and melancholy that emerge from the book.
According to the artist, this “four-color” book is intended as much for art lovers as for animal lovers. He can, therefore, rub shoulders with a bookseller either a work on Picasso’s work or a manual giving the 100 keys to understanding her pet.
