Reinhoud, Catalogue Raisonné, Sculptures, 1988-1992, tome IV (Book) by Nicole d’ Haese. Very Good Condition, Gallimard. in French.

The sculptor Reinhoud d’Haese was born in 1928 in Belgium. He made his beginnings in Brussels with a goldsmith, then attended the National School of Architecture and Decorative Arts where he learned the work of metal in sculpture. In 1950, he joined the Ateliers du Marais in Brussels, a kind of nursery for the Cobra group, where he actively participated in the transformation of the workshops into a center intended to receive artists. It is there that he meets, among others, Christian Dotremont, Luc de Heusch, Hugo Claus and Pierre Alechinsky, artists who will accompany him throughout his career.

After the Ateliers du Marais dispersed, the experimental gallery Taptoe in Brussels organized in 1956 an exhibition entirely devoted to Reinhoud. He then received the Belgian Critics’ Prize. From this time, Reinhoud will more and more give free rein to his imagination, to create a gallery of sculptures, animals, plants, and especially characters, sort of catalog of characters in the tradition of La Bruyère.
