The painter Antoni Tàpies was born in 1923 in Barcelona. His reputation is international. His engraved work is considerable: more than a thousand prints, a large part of which were produced for books or albums. The National Library of France, from its collections and the recent donation made by Antoni Tàpies, presents 49 prints and 15 books selected both for the variety of subjects and for the processes used – etchings, carborundum, lithography, engraving on wood -, and which testify to the importance that Tàpies attaches to the material.

This work, which reproduces all the exhibits and consists of several essays on the Catalan master, could not be better finished than with the catalog of his works preserved at the National Library of France, both in the Department of Prints and the Photography only at the Rare Books Reserve. This list allows everyone to appreciate the importance of this prestigious fund.

This catalog was published on the occasion of the exhibition “Tàpies or the poetics of matter”, presented by the National Library of France, François-Mitterrand site,  from March 27 to July 29, 2001.
