The Decisive Moment, Henri Cartier-Bresson, new edition (book) brand new in blister pack. 2024. 184 pages, 17 x 23 cm format. English edition.

Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) was a French photographer, photojournalist, and illustrator. Known for the precision and graphic nature of his compositions (never cropped for printing), he excelled primarily in street photography, depicting the picturesque or meaningful aspects of everyday life. Along with Robert Capa, David Seymour, William Vandivert, and George Rodger, they founded the Magnum Photos agency in 1947.

The concept of “the decisive moment” is often used in connection with his photographs, but this may be considered too reductive and the term “photographic shot” is preferred, which takes context into account. For some, he is a mythical figure of 20th-century photography, whose relative longevity in his photographic career allows him to span the years, focusing his attention on the major events that marked the middle of the century.
