Treatise on the Five Orders of Architecture Used by the Ancients, Translated from Palladio and Expanded with New Inventions for the Art of Good Building by Pierre Le Muet, New Revised and Corrected Edition (book). This work, published in Amsterdam by Henry Wetstein in 1682 (!), is in Old French, language spoken in France from the end of the 8th century. Numerous architectural sketches are explained. Hardcover book of approximately 250 pages (unnumbered). Very good condition considering its age.

Andrea Palladio, influenced by Roman and Greek architecture, and primarily by Vitruvius, is widely considered one of the most influential figures in the history of architecture. While he designed churches and palaces, he is best known for his country houses and villas. An architect of the Italian Renaissance, he is the author of a treatise entitled The Four Books of Architecture.

Pierre Le Muet (1591-1669) was a French architect, one of the four great names of 17th-century France, along with François Mansart, Jacques Lemercier and Louis Le Vau. Pierre Le Muet was the first to disseminate Palladio’s treatise in France. He did not provide a complete translation of the Italian’s treatise, but only a translation of the first book, revised and corrected (Traitté des cinq ordres…).
