A. Vesnine et Le Constructivisme by Khan Magomedov (Book) Very Good Condition, Slight Traces, in French. 1986. 220 pages. Publisher Philippe Sers. 28 x 22 cm.
Alexandre Vesnine, 1883-1959, is one of the major architects of constructivist architecture. He is best known for his meticulous outlook.
Only monograph in French devoted to this central member of the constructivist movement, at the same time architect, theater decorator, painter, graphic designer and art theorist. The work is organized into four main parts – The synthesis of the arts (1917-1922), The first constructivism (1922-1925), At the head of the Union of Contemporary Architects (1925-1931). The work of recent years constitutes an important documentary contribution concerning the Vkhoutemas and the Inkhouk (Russian art movements). 250 illustrations including 50 in color.
Constructivism is an artistic current born at the beginning of the XXᵉ century in Russia. It developed in “parallel” to another movement, suprematism.
Constructivism focuses on rigorous geometric composition and is therefore non-figurative. It combines simple geometric shapes, like circles or triangles, to create skeletal structures in three dimensions.
