Vicari, Pekin, China (Book) by Daniel Curzi. Paperback, In Very Good Condition, the book is dedicated by the painter with a small drawing.
Andrew Vicari, 1932-2016, was a Welsh painter working in Monaco, who established a career painting portraits of prominent people. Although largely unknown in his own country, Vicari was by 2004 the wealthiest living painter in Britain.
In 1974 Vicari was appointed official painter to the King and Government of Saudi Arabia. Over the next few decades he painted numerous portraits of the Saudi royal family as well as scenes of life in Riyadh and the Bedouins. It is largely to this patronage that Vicari owes his financial success, earning him the title of “The Rembrandt of Riyadh” by the New York Times in 2011. In 2001 he sold a collection of 125 paintings from the First Gulf War to Prince Khaled for £17 million.
