Second International Biennial of Art Ceramics in Vallauris, If we preserve traces dating from antiquity, it is at the beginning of XVIth century that we preserve traces dating from antiquity, it is at the beginning of XVIth century, that an important ceramic activity sees the day until becoming the main activity of the city in the XVII ° century.
The 1950s marked a definitive break with traditional production in favor of an expanding artistic production.

We know that even before Pablo Picasso’s arrival, Vallauris had welcomed new potters candidates from other horizons. These artists were named Roger Capron, Jean Derval, Robert Picault, all three from the Paris School of Applied Arts.

The presence of Picasso will considerably amplify this movement. The popularity of the painter attracted a crowd of curious, amateurs, and Vallauris, in full effervescence, benefited from a world audience thus attracting other artists including Gilbert Portanier and Roger Collet.
