Il était une fois “Underground” / Once upon a time “Underground” by Emir Kusturica and Serge Grunberg (Book) 1995. Like New, 128 pages. Hardback. Publisher Cahiers du cinema. 25.5 x 19.5 x 1 cm. French texts.

Serge Grünberg, writer and journalist, close to the filmmaker’s universe, asked Emir Kusturica to engage in a dialogue on the film Underground, its genesis, the preparation, the shooting, but also on its content and the sensations transmitted, and more broadly on his entire journey.

From the Second World War to the 1990s, the film relates the journey of clandestine resistance fighters locked in a cellar but also the romantic tribulations of a burlesque trio.
Underground is the nostalgia for an imaginary country, born of dreams and nightmares, the illusions of a nameless people and a fierce reflection on the illusion of cinema itself.
