Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, 1827-1875, is a French sculptor, painter and draftsman.
In the context of 19th century French sculpture, the multiple public commissions, to which are added the weight of the Academy and the School of Fine Arts, reinforce the dominant academicism more than the personal expression of the artists. However, Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, with his neo-baroque aesthetic, is one of the most outstanding sculptors of this period.
