Although it only lasted nine weeks between March and May 1871, the Paris Commune is a key moment in the history of the French workers’ movement. As a form of resistance, many insurgents formed barricades by stacking paving stones in the middle of the streets. These barricades are here the expression of a social protest on the part of those who want to overthrow the imperial regime and make a revolution.
