At the end of January 1955, doctors recommended that his wife live in the south of France, Dubuffet moved there with her. He had some difficulty finding suitable premises for his work. At first having only a very cramped small studio, he organized a workshop of assemblages of prints in Indian ink. Published on the occasion of the exhibition presented by the Pierre Matisse Gallery in New York, from February 21 to March 17, 1956. 14 works – 8 assemblages of prints and 6 paintings.
Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) was a French painter, sculptor and visual artist, the first theoretician of a style of art to which he gave the name of “art brut”, productions of marginal people: paintings, sculptures, calligraphy, from which he acknowledges having largely inspired himself.
