After traveling in Provence, Alphonse Daudet began with Paul Arène, writing the first texts of Lettres de mon moulin. The newspaper L’Évènement will publish them as a soap throughout the summer of 1866, under the title of Chroniques provençales. Some of the stories from Lettres de mon moulin have remained among the most popular stories in French literature, such as La Chèvre by Monsieur Seguin and Les Trois Messes basses.
