Les Maîtres  De La BD Belge / The Masters of Belgian Comics (Book) by Régine Vandamme. The Renaissance of the Book. Hardcover, Like New, 45 Pages. 2003. French texts.

The history of comics goes through Belgium. And while it is dangerous to make compartmentalizations, especially in the field of arts that knows no borders, it remains no less obvious that without Belgium, because of its publishing history, more than by particularism, comics would not be quite what they are. Two magazines, Spirou and Tintin, have succeeded in the miracle of making the small country that is Belgium the cradle of comics. The authors will do the rest. One was born in 1938, the other in 1946. One in Charleroi, the other in Brussels. One attracts authors around Jijé, the second, others around Hergé. Two graphic schools were thus born, creating emulators, arousing vocations, confirming talents, erasing boundaries, giving birth to their own masters. This mini beautiful book is the photo album of this wonderful family. It covers the post-war period to today. It only gives a glimpse of these immense talents through brief portraits recalling some of their major creations.
