Aries and Jacques O’Hana—a numbered, limited art edition—serves as the essential *catalogue raisonné* for collectors of modern Jewish art and enthusiasts of the School of Paris. These two volumes, bound and housed in individual slipcases, gather nearly 2,000 photographic illustrations (predominantly in black and white, with color plates) documenting the entire body of work by painter and sculptor Emmanuel Mané-Katz: scenes of traditional Jewish life in Eastern European *shtetls*, landscapes, musicians, orchestras, prophets, and bronze sculptures. Includes the original Mylar (acetate) dust jacket. : It protects the binding’s ochre cloth.
Volume I (approximately 1,003 illustrations) covers the paintings, gouaches, oils, and drawings from the first part of his career. Numbered copy 106/1000.
Volume II (approximately 957 illustrations) presents the late paintings and the complete body of sculpture. Numbered copy 106/500.
It is entirely possible—and indeed common—in the world of art publishing and *catalogues raisonnés* for Volume I to have a print run of 1,000 copies while Volume II has a run of only 500. The volumes of a *catalogue raisonné* are almost never released simultaneously. In the case of *Mané-Katz: The Complete Works*, Volume I appeared in 1970, whereas Volume II was released later, in 1972. Publishers (such as Éditions d’art Jacques O’Hana) often print the first volume with an optimistic figure in mind (1,000 copies). If sales of Volume I prove slower than expected after two years, the publisher may halve the print run for Volume II (500 copies) to avoid being left with unsold stock.
Each work is accompanied by a complete catalogue entry (title, dimensions, date, provenance, exhibitions, and bibliography). The books are in excellent condition, showing only slight signs of use. A rare reference work, ideal for art libraries, galleries, or discerning collectors.
